Through his early years Greg was largely influenced by music played around the house by his mother Ruth. The sounds of Motown, Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, John Mayall, Cream, Derek & The Dominos, coupled with Pop of the 80's during weekly Sunday BBC Radio Top 40 dinner times with the family.

By the end of his teens Greg was well and truly obsessive about music, starting out on electric guitar lasted several years, but a change of instrument came via the influence of the popular Jazz Funk band Jamiroquai. Hearing the bass lines provided by Stuart Zender really left an impression on him, this was more than a technical wooing, it was the sound of the bass, something connected on a visceral, spiritual level.

Greg like most serious aspiring musicians has always felt a pressure and a need to be better, to improve and explore both the instrument, and music in general to a higher level. Reaching a sticking point with self tuition Greg embarked on a journey into music education. At 21 years old he was accepted on to a Popular Music Programme, gaining formal grades on bass, and more importantly the introduction to Jazz music by his tutor Ray Fenwick (Spencer Davis Group). Ray is a seasoned veteran musician, with a style akin to Robben Ford. Under Ray's wing Greg learnt a lot about quality, tone, and the importance of a good work ethic.

In 2002 Greg moved to London to study bass guitar performance at Bass Tech (Now ICMP). It was here that he really refined / honed his skills on the instrument, becoming versed in Latin, Pop, Rock, Blues, Funk & Jazz styles. Study rounded out with developments in theoretical knowledge, improvisation & composition.

From 2006 to 2015 Greg worked full-time at Access To Music College in the City of Lincoln, both as the performance course manager and teacher, with regular jaunts to Europe at the weekends playing bass. 

Greg has provided low-end for several varied musical projects over the years, including Dutch based UK Blues artist, phenomenal vocalist and friend Sean Webster in "The Sean Webster Band". In Sean's band Greg has had the fortune to share stages with British Blues greats such as Jon Amor and Aynsley Lister to name but a few.

Greg's latest bass role as of  Jan 2017 is with the multi British Blues Award winning Laurence Jones Band, featuring Laurence Jones, longtime friend and bandmate / drummer Phil Wilson (Scott Mckeon, Jesse Davy, Sean Webster) and Bennett Holland on Keys (Weekend Players (Groove Armada), King King). Known to be one of the hardest touring artists on the scene, with LJ Greg has had the fortune to perform on some of the biggest stages all over the UK and Europe, as well as providing support to Vintage Trouble, Kenny Wayne Shepherd & Rival Sons.
